Local Government Reorganisation Consultation
The government is running a public consultation on Gloucestershire’s Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) proposals.
The consultation asks whether the proposals for either a Single Unitary, Two Unitary (East / West split) or Two Unitary (Greater Gloucester City)  :

  • Are based on sensible geographies and economic areas
  • Will deliver the outcomes described in the proposals
  • Are the right size to be efficient, improve capacity, and withstand financial shocks
  • Will enable stronger community engagement and support devolution
  • Will deliver high-quality, sustainable public services that meet local needs

The government will use the responses to help assess which option best meets the criteria for effective local government.
The consultation will run for seven weeks from Thursday, 5 February. The link for this can be found: Proposals for local government reorganisation in Gloucestershire – GOV.UK

Please do take the time to respond

STW and parish flooding
The Parish Council now have a flood working group set up with Cllrs and volunteer parishioners. We have made new links with STW who are trying to now have better communications. They have been invited to attend the Annual Parish Meeting and bring various advice leaflets. One of the things being stressed is that ALL flooding incidents, no matter what, MUST be reported. whether that be in the roads, gardens, toilets etc. This will then help build up a bigger picture for them and move Slimbridge issues up their priority list. The link to report is: Wastewater services | Contact us | Help and Contact | Severn Trent Water Videos and photos of issues happening at the time are also appreciated as they can’t be there straight away at times to see. there are a number of ways to report – phone, text, WhatsApp,

Parish Council news
20mph Traffic Road Order is still with Gloucestershire Highways and we are waiting for the public consultation date which we will publish as soon as we know.
Cllrs proposed and resolved to set the precept at £75,740 which is an increase of £5,070.00. This equates to a 7% increase, and for a Band D household equates to £10.41 per year increase (87p per month or 20p per week). Budgets, alongside the general running of the Council, will be for IT and data security, playing field management and pavilion projects, recycling and waste bins as part of changed legislation, Devolution as more work may come down from this to Town and Parish Councils, and continued work on flooding aspects in the parish such as ditches and culverts. The increase comes after the freezing of the precept last year.
The Council is also at the very early ideas of considering a mural on the wall in the playing field to brighten up this space, and look at grant funding for this.
The Neighbourhood Development Plan will also be under review considering any impacts Government Housing numbers may have on Stroud District and in turn within Slimbridge.
The Parish Council will be letting the grass grow in the back areas of the Churchyard again this year, so please do look out for the varying biodiversity this brings with it.
The Annual Parish Council meeting will be on Monday 13th April with the hall opening from 7.15pm and the meeting starting at 7.30pm

Parish News 19th November 2025

Gloucestershire Highways are due to clean out the gullies and drains on Wednesday 26th November from Tyning Crescent to Kingston Road. It would be really helpful if parked vehicles could be moved from where the drains are during this day to allow for the drains to be cleaned out please. Thank you
With the recent rain and floods last week, the Parish Council would like to remind all homeowners with any form of watercourse on their properties such as drains, ditches and culverts that you are likely to be responsible for these as riparian owners and need to keep them clear of debris to allow the water to run freely, which will help prevent flooding. If you know of any areas that may need looking at please do let us know and this can be looked at to see what can be done.
The recent Battery Storage application for Kingston Road was permitted at Stroud Development Control Committee, and in December the Wild Goose Lodge application to become a school will also go to the Committee for their decision too.
The recent 20mph open event held by Gloucestershire County Council was well attended and we should hear more back from them after the 21st November. Thank you to those who came and put their views forward. We will continue to keep you updated with the process.
The Parish Council are currently reviewing the budget for next year, and this will be resolved in January. Projects such as the pavilion kitchen, playing field management and recycling bins will be included in this along with preparing for any Devolution that may be coming our way too within the Local Government Organisation moving to Unitary Authority.
It has been noticed that parking on the double yellow lines outside the school has become worse again, with someone reporting a near miss of a child recently. We are liaising with the school, police and enforcement officers on this to ensure safety around the school is adhered to. Please do park considerately.
You may have seen Charlie Richardson from CJR Gardening Services doing a great job on clearing out a lot of vegetation from the Churchyard, and uncovering a grave at the front by the cross too which had been covered by a large bush. This should now help towards keeping the area more manageable going into the future.

Parish News 4th September 2025

Good afternoon,

The Parish Council are busy with a number of things presently.

St John’s Road culvert
The culvert on St John’s Road where there is a blockage, causing flooding of property gardens and St Johns Road in heavy rains, will be repaired this month. This will cause some minor disruption on the pavement whilst the works take place, but the long term benefits will obviously outweigh this. The Parish Council and Gloucestershire Highways are paying for this as a one off goodwill gesture with future maintenance and responsibilities to be sorted.

Planning applications
The Battery Storage planning application will now go to Stroud District Development Control Committee in October, and the Parish Council will make representations. The Parish Council are still waiting for the planning application for Wild Goose Lodge.

Playing Field
The Parish Council are also in the process of getting the playing field assessed to see how this can be managed going into the future. Cllr Steve Tilley is seen below digging out for soil samples. reports are expected soon and then Cllrs can look at options for maintenance.

St Johns Churchyard
Cllrs and volunteers also took part in a working party this morning at the Churchyard making sure that the listed tombs and other graves are kept free of brambles. We are looking at having regular dates for this and would love to have more volunteers involved. Cake is always available! Below is Cllr Anna Butcher clearing a cross at the entrance.

Solar farm Fund
Finally, if you are part of a community group undertaking any projects or activities, don’t forget to look at the Solar farm Fund for opportunities to apply. Details are on the Parish Council website at: Solar Farm Community Fund – Slimbridge Parish Council. Applications are now open with a deadline of 17th October.

Battery Storage planning applications
Slimbridge Parish Council had their planning meeting last night, where the Battery Storage application has come back again as a new Variation application which is the same as the previous Variation application that has gone to appeal.
So this means that the applicants have a current application at Stroud District Council (S.25/1339/VAR) which the Parish Council have resolved to object to, and request that it is called into the Development Control  Committee; the applicant also has the previously refused application (S.25/0713/VAR) going to appeal. Therefore if you commented on the previous application through Stroud District Council, then you will now need to go to the new application to submit your comments again.

Churchyard working party
We are planning another working party date at St Johns churchyard on Thursday 4th September at 10am. If anyone would like to join us it would be much appreciated. Please bring gloves and any small tools to use. If you would like to let me know if you can join, then I can plan for the jobs we need to carry out.
