The Vision:
Slimbridge Road Safety Group is working with the local community and Parish Council to help identify opportunities to make the roads of Slimbridge Parish safer for all users, a number of initiatives have been achieved, such as the mobile speed units, community cameras and gateways, plus two crossing points put in on the St Johns Road, stickers for wheelie bins and 20 is Plenty initiative. This has now gone onto applying for a 20mph speed limit, as changes are made within Gloucestershire Highways over the years.

WWT also support the 20mph and promote this on their website asking their visitors to drive at 20mph once they come off the A38. They also encourage their staff to do the same.
The Group:
We come from all backgrounds – from public service, business, charity and family life.
Our connection to the area varies from those who have lived in the area for decades, to those who have recently arrived. Some of us have first hand experience of avoidable road traffic accidents, or have family and friends that have been effected by the type of events that we hope to prevent.
Others have a strong desire to enhance rural life, encouraging the use of road safety to promote access and sustainability whilst protecting the tranquillity and countryside character that we cherish.
We welcome all comments and questions, encouraging everyone to get involved to support efforts to make our Highways safe and suitable for everyone.
The group changed their name to Slimbridge Road Safety Group from Quiet Lanes Group so as to be more clear on the objectives of the group. The progress of the group is reported back to the Parish Council monthly and can be seen in the Parish Council minutes, available on the website.

Gloucestershire Highways are wishing to carry out a drop in session to consult on the 20mph proposals before they put out their official consultation. This is an early chance to look at the proposed plans and give any initial feedback for them to consider, with the aim of making the official consultation go smoothly.
This will be held on Thursday 6th November at Slimbridge Village Hall from 3-7pm. Please see the below links to information on this consultation. Please note this is a Gloucestershire Highways consultation and therefore comments are best directed to them using the e-mail provided. Slimbridge Road Consultation information
After numerous meetings and changes of regulations and policies within GCC, the Traffic Road Order (TRO) has been applied for. All roads (with the exception of the A38) will be changed to 20mph, and Dursley Road changed to 30mph. This was based on speed surveys done by Highways (below). The cost of this scheme will be £28,000. The Parish Council paid for the surveys below, and have paid £14,000 (£7,500 from the precept over a couple of years, and £7,500 from the Solar farm fund) for the TRO, with Gloucestershire Highways match funding the other £14,000. This has been in the budget for a number of years whilst working towards a scheme with the Highways and police.
