Slimbridge Parish Council awarded grant for pavilion extension project
Grassroots sport in Slimbridge is set to benefit from a cash injection following the news that Slimbridge Parish Council have been awarded a grant of £9,404 from the Premier League & The FA Facilities Fund.
The grant will enable Slimbridge Parish Council to expand the existing Slimbridge Pavilion, helping to provide better storage facilities for equipment. This will allow the Council to continue supporting local football and cricket clubs.
The Premier League & The FA Facilities Fund aims to improve the experience for regular players as well as attracting new players to the game.
It is delivered by the Football Foundation, the country’s largest sports charity. Founded in 2000, the Football Foundation is the largest sports charity in the UK funded by the Premier League, The FA and Government, via Sport England. It develops new and refurbished grassroots sports facilities in order to improve the quality and experience of playing sport at the grassroots level.
Since it was launched in 2000, the Foundation has awarded around 15,000 grants worth more than £580m towards improving grassroots sport, which it has used to attract additional partnership funding of over £800m – £1.4bn of investment into the grassroots game.
Helen Dunn, Slimbridge Parish Council Clerk, said: “The expansion of the pavilion facilities has been made possible thanks to the grant of £9,404, from the Premier League & The FA Facilities Fund, along with a grant of £2,000 from Slimbridge Football Club, and the remaining funds from Slimbridge Parish Council. This will enable our local clubs to continue to grow and play grassroots sports within the community. An official open event will take place in the near future, and the clubs are currently moving their equipment into the new facilities.”
Paul Thorogood, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation, said: “Congratulations should go to Slimbridge Parish Council for working with the Gloucestershire County FA to secure this Premier League & The FA Facilities Fund grant.”
