Community Cameras
Slimbridge Parish Council have two community ANPR cameras in place in the parish. These detect the speed of vehicles travelling along the road, taking an image of the number plate. The Parish Council owns and monitors these cameras, and those going excessively above the speed limit will be reported to the police. The Parish Council also work alongside the police looking at hot spots of when there is significant traffic, or times when more speeding occurs, to give information so as the police can come out and do speed checks.
The police will send letters to those being reported by the Parish Council, to remind drivers of their speeds and to slow down.
This works alongside the Vehicle Activated Signs that the Slimbridge Road Safety Team move around the parish.
Anonymous data on the speeds from the cameras is shown below. Policies for the cameras are available to view under Documents and Policies

Gloucestershire Police Statistics
Speeding statistics are now available on the Gloucestershire Constabulary website, please find below a link, however the pages can be found from the front page in the black lower area under the heading ‘Information services / Stats and data’.
You will there find a button entitled ‘Speed statistics’
Stats and data | Gloucestershire Constabulary
The information is split into three sections:
- Letters sent as a result of volunteer community speed watch groups, recorded by area.
- Letters sent as a result of community speed cameras, recorded by parish/community, and
- Mobile speed enforcement activity, showing number of site visits and number of offences.
The first two also include vehicles ‘for further action’ i.e. have received two letters, that have been sent out as intelligence to policing areas to look at any action they can take. With some of these being sent to the Special Constabulary with the aim of mounting operations to detect or visit the registered keepers home address.
